Armchair
World's Co-Director Lisa Thompson came up with this idea: Why not use a covered
tureen and ceramic spoon to proof the Amish Friendship Bread starter? So she
found a shiny white porcelain tureen that complements our porcelain storage
crock and tried it. It worked perfectly! The tureen has an internal diameter of
7" and is 5" deep. It holds 12 cups. Overall, the tureen and cover are 10" wide
by 9" high. The thick porcelain tureen helps maintain a uniform temperature
which the culture enjoys. The porcelain lid keeps out contamination. The
porcelain spoon is perfect for mixing the starter on a regular basis. Since the
spoon is kept in the tureen during the 10 days, the chance of outside
contamination is minimized. When you reach day 10, simply take out a portion of
the starter for your friends, place the remaining starter and your Friendship
Bread recipe ingredients into a mixing bowl (our
Bunzlauer Stoneware Mixing Bowl is perfect
for the task), mix and then bake. There really is something new under the
sun!
