Handmade by Margi Beyers. Margi has been making stoneware baking products for over 20 years. A gourmet's delight, this combination Pizza Stone / Bread Stone is made of a special stoneware clay that can be used in both a hot oven and broiler. Margi's stone is approximately 15-1/4" in diameter and approximately 3/8" thick. If you've never used a stone, you are in for a treat. The stone simulates a brick oven thus helping to brown the crust evenly for breads and crisply for pizza. For pizza you can either preheat the stone in a hot oven and then apply the pizza to the stone using a peel or build the pizza directly on a room-temperature stone and then put the stone in the oven. Margi's stone has a glazed side (shown) and an un-glazed side. We use the unglazed side for breads and pizza, and the glazed side for cookies and pastries. These stones are beautiful. They have a hole near the rim so that you can hang them in your kitchen for decoration. Slight differences in appearance and texture are to be expected since these stones are handmade. You'll find a multitude of uses for your stone besides baking.
